Professor Donnan is a clinical stroke neurologist with long-standing research interests in acute stroke therapy and clinical trials. He is a former Director of the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health and past President of the World Stroke Organization. He is currently Professor of Neurology at the University of Melbourne and co-chair, with Stephen Davis, of the Australian Stroke Alliance. This is a collaborative group, funded by the Frontiers MRFF program, embracing many organisations and disciplines across Australia to advance prehospital stroke care, particularly using lightweight brain imaging devices on road and in air. This program encompasses all Australians who may develop stroke, but particularly benefits rural, remote and Indigenous communities.
